Disclaimer: This post is unabashedly personal in its attempt to see a band make it in the brutal music business. Let me start by saying that I know a lot of local Seattle readers will read this as perhaps a trivial insult to Hey Marseilles - I mean, who hasn't heard of Hey Marseilles around Seattle?! However, through years of concert going, and countless Hey Marseilles concerts, I have never sat down and concentrated on a blog to share their love and it is to my understanding that they're not in the top 100 on iTunes yet. Right? I should check that. Because they very well should be. And right now, there is the climate for it with all the folk/pop wonderbands "making" it right now.
Hey Marseilles is a world orchestral-pop band that has yet to record a song to my knowledge that is not a brilliant gem intended for the greater world of traversing through forests and spring afternoons. They're something of a cherished secret amongst Seattlites. But with their second album Lines We Trace out 3/5, I see potential for them to springboard into great things. For a first taste, I would recommend the local pleaser, "Rio" off their debut album, To Travels and Trunks. Off their new album you can expect, "Hold Your Head," a simple melody with tremendous heart, and first single, "Bright Stars Burning" a tremendous cut that well showcases their affinity for to-the-heart orchestral pop perfection. You have lots of options now: My friend, Kyle has also done an interview with lead singer Matt Bishop, to which you can check out if you so choose here. You can stream the new album at Paste, watch "Hold Your Head" and "Bright Stars Burning" below, preorder or buy their new album Lines We Trace on the 5th, and catch them on tour. They truly deserve some support.
Update: If you're in the Seattle area, Hey Marseilles will be performing live, in-store at Easy Street Records in West Seattle for freeeeee. Go sway, be happy.
